Cavanaugh

Joseph S. Cavanaugh, 86, of Butler died peacefully early Wednesday morning at Sunnyview Home.

He was born in Pittsburgh Jan. 16, 1922, a son of Charles Patrick and Margaret Wess Cavanaugh.

Joe was a graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York City, where he studied architectural engineering; and he formerly had lived in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Joe had always worked in sales. While living in Park Forest, Ill., he traveled 10 states representing the Klein Tool Co. Later moving to Port Chester, N.Y., he was a sales representative and designer for the Cox Kitchen Co. While living in Butler, he was the founder of his own company, Mar Industrial Sales Co. that he operated until his illness forced his retirement.

A veteran of World War II, he had proudly served in the Army as a sergeant, supervisor and rifle instructor in the Quartermaster Corps in Central Europe.

Active in the Butler community, Joe had been involved with Troop 6 Boy Scouts at St. Paul Catholic Church for years and had been a driver and equipment manager with the General Butler Vagabonds Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. He received an Appreciation Award from the Butler County Symphony for his years of involvement as a board member and production manager.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 117.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mar-Bet Wood Cavanaugh, who he married May 18, 1946; two sons, Kevin Cavanaugh of Wexford and Patrick Cavanaugh and his wife, Mary, of Worthington; a daughter, Maureen Gizienski of Butler; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan, Kathleen, Shawn, Colleen, Molly and Nolan Cavanaugh and Shannon and Adam Gizienski; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Bill Cavanaugh, who died Sept. 29, 1984, and Michael Cavanaugh, who died Aug. 1, 2001.

<B>CAVANAUGH </B>— Friends of Joseph S. Cavanaugh, who died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Parish Family Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. The Rev. Pierre Falkenhan will officiate.
