Donald A. Briggs, 83, of Saxonburg passed away Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1928, in Los Angeles, he was the son of the Rev. Frederick J. Briggs and the Rev. Florence Annie Oakes Briggs.

Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

He worked as a steel salesman for Jones & Laughlin Steel, LTV and Republic Steel.

He was a member of the Nixon United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, the past chief of the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company, and he had worked at the fire training center at Butler County Community College. He enjoyed his grandchildren's sports activities.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Gibson Briggs, who he married July 25, 1953; his daughter, Barbara L. Briggs of Sarver; two sons, Robert A. (Kathie) Briggs of Saxonburg and Scott W. (Sue) Briggs of Saxonburg; five grandchildren, Andrew D. (Dana) Briggs, Wes (Brooke) Briggs, Rob Briggs, Kristina Briggs and Nick Briggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Grace Farquhar.

<B>BRIGGS</B> — Friends of Donald A. Briggs, who passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at the Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, Butler, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Bruce Merritt officiating.Memorial donations may be made to the Nixon United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.Information also is available at www.foxfuneralhomeinc.com.
