Mary Edna Ray

Mary Edna Ray, 70, of Butler died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the ACMH Hospital in Kittanning.

She was born in Mount Pleasant, April 22, 1939, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Copeland Hines.

She was a 1960 graduate of the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing and a graduate of Slippery Rock University, earning two degrees there, a bachelor of education in 1978, certification as a school nurse in 1979 and later in 1983, a bachelor of nursing degree.

A registered nurse, during her career, Mary had been employed at the Butler Memorial Hospital, the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and most recently, by the Pennsylvania State Department of Health.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving are her beloved children: four sons, Gregory R. (Diane) Ray of Moon Township, Allegheny County, Roger (Becky) Ray of Butler, Patrick (Kathy) Ray of Butler and Eric (Dana) Ray of Punxsutawney; and two daughters, Amy Ray Williams of Pittsburgh and Rhonda Ray-Gomez and her husband, Tony Gomez of Butler. She was most proud of her 15 grandchildren, T.J., Kristen and Marisa Ray, Dominic (Maggie) Gomez, Evan and Molly Gomez, Amanda, Victor and Ben Ray, Aleesa and Patrick Ray Jr., and Justin, Nathan, Kaitlyn and Megan Ray. She adored her great-grandchildren, Hailey Cartwright and Felix Gomez.

Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret (Jim) Singletary and Kathleen Temeles, both of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, Michael (Lois) McConnell of Illinois; and a dear aunt, Frances Conners, with whom Mary had resided during her youth.

She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Brandon Ray; a brother-in-law, David Temeles; and her former husband, Robert Ray; along with aunts, uncles and cousins.

<B>RAY </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Mary Edna Ray, who died Monday, March 29, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
