Man sentenced for stealing woman's phone, sharing naked photo

Stephen A. Dayton

A Wampum man who stole a woman's phone and hacked into it to access her nude self portrait photos was sentenced on Thursday to jail in two related cases.

Stephen Allen Dayton stole a phone that a woman had left behind in the Butler Arby's. Police said Dayton was somehow able to bypass the phone's security feature, giving him access to her digital contacts and a wealth of nude photos.

Dayton was charged in two separate cases and after pleading guilty to selling obscene, sexual materials a Butler judge sentenced him to six months to one year in jail followed by two years of probation. In the second case, Dayton pleaded guilty to theft of property lost by mistake and was sentenced to nine to 23 months in jail. The sentences are to run simultaneously.

Police first became aware of the situation last year when a friend of the woman reported receiving a nude photo of the woman from an unknown number.
