Bicyclist critically injured after crashing into SUV
State police are investigating a Saturday afternoon crash between a bicycle and a sport utility vehicle at a Callery intersection that left the biker hospitalized in critical condition. The SUV driver suffered apparent minor injuries.
The bicyclist, a 56-year-old Mars-area man, was “in and out” of consciousness when emergency crews found him following the crash about 12:40 p.m. at Mars Evans City and Marburger roads, authorities said.
He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where he underwent surgery later Saturday and this morning. The SUV driver, believed to be in his 60s, was evaluated by an ambulance crew at the scene but it was not known if he was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
