After a nine-month courageous battle with cancer, Dean L. Pecoraro, 65, of Butler passed away Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 19, 1946, to Louis A. and Agnes Lankiewiez Pecoraro. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Fotta Pecoraro, who he married June 13, 1970; two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Michael Fleeger and Amanda and Nathaniel Rekich, all of Butler; three grandchildren, Emily Fleeger, Tyler Rekich and Ella Rekich, all of Butler; one sister, Jeanette Kirsch of McDonald, Pa.; and two nieces, Nichole and her husband, Scott McKinney, and Amelia Johnston.

Dean taught geography at Butler Junior High School for 35 years and also sold appliances at R.W. McDonald and Sons for 22 years.

He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Parish, the Slovak Catholic Sokol Golf League and was a master gardener. He also was a former member of the Irene Stacy Board and had volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Broad Street Elementary School and the Community Dinner at the First English Lutheran Church.

Dean especially enjoyed golfing, traveling, gardening, hiking, reading and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Dean was blessed to have many close friends in his life. He had a good life, although it was too short. He will be missed by many.

Pecoraro, who died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, will be received in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.The bereavement group of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Sunday to conduct a scriptural wake service.Memorial donations may be made to Butler County Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
