Jenkins 90th birthday
Joe Jenkins of Butler celebrated his 90th birthday with a party at the Butler Country Club Aug. 23 and a party at his son’s home in Barkeyville Aug. 24. Family and friends from eight states came to celebrate this milestone.
Jenkins was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Butler, the son of John Kenneth Jr. and Anna (Blicha) Jenkins.
He has seven children, Joseph C. Jenkins of Barkeyville; Sally Jenkins of Vancouver, Wash.; Jody Knapp of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Daniel Jenkins of Ukiah, Calif.; Rebecca Smyth of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Patrick Jenkins of Highland Mills, N.Y.; and the late Kelly Nielsen. He also has two stepchildren, Michael Staaf of New Brighton and Joni Sturgill of Franklin Park, 17 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He has been married for 32 years to the former Joann Staaf.
He retired as a U.S. Army major in 1967 and as a special agent for the Federal Aviation Administration in 1993.
He enjoys woodworking and has made several pieces of furniture and grandfather clocks for his children.
He is a life member of the VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He is a Purple Heart veteran.
