Elvin G. Stivenson, 78, of Buffalo Township passed away at 7:25 a.m. Friday at Fair Winds Manor, Winfield Township.

Elvin was born in Natrona Heights on Sept. 23, 1930, the son of the late Arthur George and Leona (Smith) Stivenson Sr.

He was a member of Lighthouse Fellowship Center in Sarver. He had been a conductor and a brakeman for the railroad at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge for 40 years. He retired in 1988.

Elvin competed for many years in the modified, coupe and late model dirt divisions at Lernerville Speedway and other tracks in the area. He enjoyed working on hot rods and classic cars. He also sang at a number of churches, and his greatest love was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jane (Knox) Stivenson. He also is survived by two sons and their wives, Randall G. and Janet Stivenson of Buffalo Township and Roger C. and Valerie Stivenson of Freeport; a brother, Darwin (Marlene) Stivenson of Buffalo Township; a sister, Mabel Furer of Buffalo Township; seven grandsons, Ben (Emily) Rose, Randy (Stephanie) Stivenson, Matthew Stivenson, Brandon Stivenson, Brian Stivenson, Dylan Stivenson, and Eric Stivenson; and nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Darius, Madison, Page, Kaydence, Courtney, and Ethan Stivenson, Cassie and Morgan Rose.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra L. Rose, who died in 1995; two brothers, Arthur George Jr. and Wilbert "Pete" Stivenson; and his sister, Ellen Stivenson, who died in infancy.

<B>Stivenson</B> — Family and friends of Elvin G. Stivenson of Buffalo Township, who died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Lighthouse Fellowship Center on Lucas Lane in Sarver. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Richard Shick officiating.
