Arthur G. “Art” Edwards, 84, of Mars, formerly of Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville, Sharon, St. Mary's and Indiana, Pa., died Tuesday morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born on June 4, 1928, in Home, Pa., Indiana County. He was the son of the late Giles Stephens and Luella Dick Edwards.

He was raised on a farm in Marchard, Jefferson County, and graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1946. He honorably served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Motorcycle Military Police Division in Western Germany from 1950 to 1953.

On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Lois Jean Reid at the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Punxsutawney.

They lived in Reynoldsville, Pa., and he had served on the DuBois School Board. He retired as foreman of the National Fuel Gas Co. distribution division in Elk and Cameron counties.

He was a 50-year member of the Reynoldsville Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the Reynoldsville Kiwanis; the Odd Fellows Society; the Mars Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president; the Mars Area Historical Society, and the Dutilh United Methodist Church, Mars Campus.

He spent his remaining days in the loving care at Concordia of Cranberry Assisted Living.

Art loved woodworking, old-time country music, gardening, and getting on a farm tractor. He was a life-long Republican.

He was the father of Andrew of Indiana, Pa., Lisa Edwards and her husband, John Gullo, of New York City and Shelly Watson and her husband, John, of Mars; grandfather of Gunnar, Ruby and Bruce Watson of Mars; brother of Thelma Kohlhepp of Indiana, Pa., Florence Baston of Lakewood, N.J., Grace Rhodes and her husband, Mel, of Kingwood, Texas, and Earl Edwards of Decatur, Ga.; brother-in-law of Frank Etherson of Cranberry Township; nephew of Virginia Dick of Indiana, Pa.; his close friend, Elsie Moore of Portersville; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Lois Jean Reid Edwards, who died on Jan. 28, 1993; his sister and her husband, Esther and Upton Guisbert; his brothers-in-law, Stanley Baston and Dale Kohlhepp; and his sister-in-law, Marcia Reid Etherson.

EDWARDS — Friends of Arthur G. “Art” Edwards, who died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. James Gascoine of the Dutilh United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, Pa.Memorials may be made to the Mars Area Historical Society, P. O.
