Friday to bear the brunt of snow
Butler County residents will likely wake up Friday morning to a brand new covering of snow, which is expected to pile up overnight in the region about 2 to 4 inches.
Bill Modzelewski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said a cold front will move through the region Thursday night into Friday morning, and will drop temperatures to around 5 to 10 degrees and bring with it enough moisture to cause snow showers throughout the day.
“Freezing rain and sleet should transfer to snow as our temperatures begin to cool,” Modzelewski said. “There will still be some snow showers; there is a cold front pushing through now. (Friday’s) high should be around 25.”
The National Weather Service Pittsburgh has a winter storm warning in effect until 10 a.m. Friday. Modzelewski said the snow could still cause dangerous road conditions until the temperatures get above freezing.
Those who can make it through Friday’s cold will see brighter skies ahead, according to Modzelewski.
“It looks like a pretty quick cool down; by Sunday we should be back in the mid-30s,” Modzelewski said.
Saturday will be dry, Modzelewski said, and clouds are expected to gradually decrease to make way for sunny to partly cloudy conditions. Temperatures will hover in the 20s Saturday, reaching the coldest point after sunset.
Sunday will begin the trend of climbing temperatures, Modzelewski said.
“Skies should be sunny showing a little bit of improvement by early next week,” Modzelewski said. “(Next week) looks like a fairly quiet week. Seasonable temperatures overall, highs in the 30s and lows in the mid-teens. Mainly looking at a dry week.”
