2 men charged in separate cases involving assault and threat to medical professionals

It was a rough week for a handful of medical professionals who were threatened and assaulted in separate incidents.

Butler police arrested and charged Tyler M. Hamon, 27, of Greensburg, with two felony counts aggravated of assault after he allegedly injured two nurses treating him Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Following his arraignment by District Judge William Fullerton, he was placed in Butler County Prison, where he remains on $10,000 bond.

According to charging documents, both nurses claimed Hamon assaulted them.

“Hamon bit (one nurse’s) hair, taking a large chunk of hair out of her head and also punched her chest,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “Hamon also attacked (a second nurse) by ripping her plastic gown, twisting her thumb and then scratching her.”

As they investigated, police said they saw injuries on both nurses consistent with the described events.

In a separate report Wednesday, state police filed charges and an arrest warrant against Leroy K. Claypool, 41, of Brady Township, after he allegedly threatened EMS responders while in the midst of a mental health crisis.

Claypool is charged with misdemeanor terroristic threats and resisting arrest, related to an incident Wednesday morning at his home on Turk Road.

“Upon arrival, I made contact with one victim, who related that (Claypool) stated that he would shoot him if he did not leave his residence, then stood up in a threatening manner,” said the investigating trooper in the affidavit.

According to reports, Claypool refused to cooperate as the first responders asked him to leave his home and then reacted as troopers approached to arrest him.

Police said Claypool pulled his right arm away and “raised his walking stick to strike” one of the troopers, according to the affidavit. Police said they used a Taser to stop Claypool and arrest him.

A preliminary hearing for Hamon is scheduled Feb. 14 before Fullerton. A hearing is not yet set for Claypool.
