John P. Fitzpatrick
John P. Fitzpatrick, 90, of Butler died Tuesday morning at Angert's Personal Care Home, Butler.
Born June 27, 1919, in Hamilton, Scotland, he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Duddy) Fitzpatrick.
He was a coal miner for 57 years for Union Carbid and retired from Fawn Mine near Saxonburg.
He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the VFW 249, the American Legion 117, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the East Butler Fire Hall Club.
He played baseball for the St. Wendelin Church league, and he also enjoyed dancing with his wife.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic.
He is survived by four children, Margaret "Peggy" Sheetz, Elizabeth "Bonnie" Tirk and her husband, Earl, Kevin James Fitzpatrick and his wife, Debra, and Eric Scott Fitzpatrick and his wife, Nancy, all of Butler; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nelle (Dan) Zarnick and Verna Mae McCloskey, both of Butler; a brother, Richard (Dorothy) Fitzpatrick of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Bess" (Osche) Fitzpatrick, who he married June 13, 1943, and who died Nov. 17, 1989; a daughter, Karen (Fitzpatrick) Krauchak; a son, John P. Fitzpatrick Jr.; three brothers; and three sisters.
<B>Fitzpatrick</B> — Friends of John F. Fitzpatrick, who died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.The Women's Council of St. Peter will meet at 9:40 a.m. Friday at the church to recite the rosary.
