Werner

Albert H. Werner, 86, of Smith Road, Renfrew, died Friday morning at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 21, 1923, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Edward A. and Dorothy G. (Love) Werner.

He worked as a Local 12 union sheet metal worker, and he was the vice president of the sheet metal division for John R. Ellison and Sons. Following that, he, along with his family, had operated Werner Metal Industries in Ford City, from where he retired.

Albert was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian, the American Legion 117 in Butler, the Meridian Vets Club, the Order of Alhambra and the Knights of Columbus 866 in Butler, where he was in the 4th degree.

He had enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid gardener and had owned the family farm.

A veteran of World War II, he had served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Surviving are his wife, Florence D. (Shimmel) Werner, who he married June 14, 1943; three sons, Patrick A. Werner and his wife, Sharon, of Butler, Paul R. Werner of Butler, and Edward A. Werner and his wife, Karen, of Herman; two daughters, Margaret E. "Peggy" Mercer of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marie E. Rhodes of Renfrew; 11 grandchildren, Tony Werner, Stephanie Werner, A.J. Werner, Angela Mercer-Swindell, Nathan Werner, Douglas Werner, Melanie Werner, Christian Werner, Juliane Barber, Rachel Frazier and Michelle Wright; 12 great-grandchildren, Chancellor Werner, Van Mahler, Ayla Werner, Rylee Werner, Alexandra Wright, Cooper Barber, Zach Barber, Sean Swindell, Matthew Swindell, Lauren Swindell, Sydney Frazier and Blaikley Thompson; three brothers and their wives, Ervin and Norma Jean Werner of Butler, William and Monalene Werner of Florida and George and Mary Werner of Butler; a sister-in-law, Barbara Werner of Butler; and a brother-in-law, Ronald E. Schettler of Portersville.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Paula Mercer and Jason Kutch; a brother, Howard Werner; and a sister, Dolly Schettler.

<B>Werner </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Albert H. Werner, who died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. Interment will in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home for a parish vigil service.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
