Police say child found out in cold, mother faces charges
A Seven Fields woman is facing child endangerment charges after allegedly locking her 12-year-old daughter out of the house without a coat Monday afternoon, in frigid conditions.
Kimberly Giles, 53, is in Butler County Prison with bail set at $10,000 after Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police were dispatched to her home on Mosside Loop for a well-being check.
Police found her 12-year-old daughter standing outside the house without a jacket. The temperature was 35 degrees with light snow. The girl said she got home from school and found both the front and back doors locked, and the back door was barricaded, according to a criminal complaint.
Her mother, Giles, was waving at her daughter from inside the home, according to police.
The girl used a log to break the glass in the door but was unable to get inside, according to police. She was outside for about 15 to 20 minutes.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled April 20 before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry Township.
