Good fortune to have been a mentor with Veterans Court
Dear Editor,
I have had the good fortune to serve as mentor for Veterans Court for the past fourteen years.
This time was divided between Dauphin and Butler County.
Three years ago one of the veteran participants, who was over 70 years old, came to court wearing a sports coat adorned with cats wearing Santa Claus hats.
He also had a string of battery powered Christmas lights around his neck.
Judge Timothy McCune smiled and complimented on his outfit.
The veteran then said, “This courtroom changes into a place of support, encouragement and hope once a week.”
He summed up Veterans Court perfectly.
This county is very fortunate to have Judge McCune and the Veterans Court team members helping these Veterans.
It is criminal justice done correctly, in my view.
