I am originally from a small town in West Virginia called Williamstown, but I have called different places my home, from Florida to Kentucky to Italy to Ohio and now Butler, PA. Yes, "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is my favorite song, with Pepperoni Rolls as my favorite snack. I love many types of music, especially 80s and 90s country music and pop/rock and of course anything Motown.
I am an award-winning photojournalist and writer with over 20 years of experience in public relations, commercial, and news photography. I have always felt best communicating behind the camera. I have enjoyed working with and meeting diverse people and telling their stories to educate and inform people on subjects to further increase the public’s knowledge and show how ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
My philosophy is community photojournalism first and getting to know as many people as I can. While I love feature and sports photography the most, one of my most memorable assignments I covered was the Pike County murders in Ohio, one of the biggest news stories nationwide at its time. And of course the many stories that came out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
My love of photography started in high school when I was the school newspaper editor. The photographer got senioritis and quit before homecoming and of course I had to cover. I picked up a roll of film, an old Nikon FM2 film camera, and a how to book on photography and the rest is history.
I previously worked as a photojournalist for the Chillicothe Gazette, part of the USA Today Network, where I covered everything from breaking news to sports to features. I also have stints at Ohio University’s WOUB photo department as assignment and photo editor and where I worked on my masters in photojournalism and was in the broadcast news industry for several years, stints in public relations and of course as a freelance photographer for various news outlets. I got my BA in Communications and Photojournalism at Berea College, a small college in KY.
On my spare time I enjoy hikes, old movies, and looking for that next photo idea.
You can always reach out to me for story ideas or just to say hi.
My door is always open to the community.
