Zelie proclaims Friday ‘Don Pepe Day’
Zelienople Mayor Thomas Oliverio announced that Friday, Jan. 20 is “Don Pepe Day” — in celebration of the former borough manager.
“Don Pepe has been with us for 17 years and has decided to retire,” Oliverio said. “We decided to dedicate this Friday to him.”
The borough has invited people who worked with Pepe from across the region to an open house at the borough building Friday.
“It’s going to be an open house for local municipal managers,” said Cindy Edwards, assistant borough manager. “It’s to give people a chance to give their well-wishes.”
The celebration will last from 1 to 3 p.m.
“It’s really a day to honor the borough manager,” Edwards said.
Pepe retired last week after just over 17 years with the borough. He began his time as borough manager in December 2005.
Andrew Spencer, the former assistant borough manager, will fill his role. Pepe has expressed his admiration for Spencer and the importance of passing the position on to the next generation.
