Zelie water safe after derailment
Zelienople issued a statement this week verifying that no volatile organic compounds were detected in the borough’s water supply after last month’s derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
The borough’s water supplier, Beaver Falls Municipal Authority, shared its findings after testing a water sample taken Wednesday, Feb. 22.
The supplier’s report shows the presence of trihalomethanes, which are a product of the chlorine used to disinfect water and its natural organic matter. The borough’s statement says that trihalomethanes “are always present in disinfected water.”
Additionally, the borough confirmed no volatile organic compounds were present in a water sample collected at the entry point to its water distribution system. This sample was taken Thursday, Feb. 23.
