2 transported by medical helicopter, 1 arrested after Route 8 crash
PENN TWP — Two people were taken to the hospital by medical helicopter and another was arrested after a head-on collision Friday along Route 8.
A red Ford pickup truck traveling southbound crossed into oncoming traffic around 4:15 p.m., colliding with a red dump truck, according to Jack Ripper of the Penn Township Police Department.
The passenger in the pickup, who police said had active warrants for his arrest, ran from the scene. He was found nearby in a housing development and taken into custody without further incident. Police did not identify the man Friday.
Both the driver of the pickup and the passenger of the dump truck were taken by LifeFlight from the scene, Ripper said. The driver had reported been transported for a head injury, and the condition of the dump truck passenger was unknown.
The driver of the dump truck was evaluated, but not transported for injuries. The driver reported trying to avoid the oncoming pickup truck, police said.
According to Ripper, the pickup truck was heavily damaged in the crash.
The Penn Township Police Department, Penn Township Fire Department, Middlesex Police Department and Butler Ambulance Service were among those that responded to the scene.
