Early plans for a shopping center in Jackson Township were presented to the planning commission Wednesday, May 3, featuring a new Aldi grocery store in the municipality.

“The developer is in the very early stages of the approval process,” said Nikki Colton, planning director and zoning officer for the township.

The Jackson Village shopping center is planned at the intersection of Route 19 and Little Creek Road, along the western side.

“They (the developers) met with the planning commission last night to present their sketch plans,” Colton said Thursday. “It is my understanding that they will be submitting a full application later this month for review.”

According to Colton, preliminary plans include a gas station, auto parts store, a small retail space, four drive-through restaurants, a bank and an Aldi.

“The proposed planned shopping center will be a great benefit to the residents of the township by providing additional retail, services and restaurants to the area,” Colton said.

And the developer is looking to bring these amenities to residents as soon as possible, beginning with the new grocery store.

“They are currently working with outside agencies for any additional permitting that may be needed, in addition to the township,” Colton said. “It is also my understanding that they would like phase one, slated for Aldi, to be completed by next spring.”

The plans could see approval as early as June 15, according to Colton.

“If the plans they submit are administratively complete, they would be on the planning commission’s agenda on June 7 and the board of supervisors agenda for the June 15 meeting,” she said.
