ADAMS TWP — Crews were dispatched Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16, for a working woods fire near Colonel Lane.

“I got here and basically found that there was this wooded area that was burning,” said Assistant Chief Randy Hoffman, Callery Volunteer Fire Department. “So we just started attacking it from the one side.”

The call for the fire came at about 2:52 p.m., according to Hoffman, with crews arriving on the scene less than five minutes later.

“We used tankers because it’s an unhydranted-area and shuttled water in to the fire,” he said.

Adams Area Fire District and Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company additionally responded, according to Hoffman, with initial crews managing to contain the blaze to the wooded area.

“We returned Cranberry’s fire department, because we had the fire contained at that point,” he said. “So it wasn’t spreading anymore.”

Hoffman said the initial cause of the fire was unknown.

“I’m assuming there was a pile of brush down there that started it,” he said.

Also on scene were Adams Area Fire District’s Fire Police, Adams Township Police Department and Quality EMS.

“We were here 10 minutes, maybe, and it was under control,” Hoffman said. “We’re just hitting hot spots and some burning logs.”
