Tractor-trailer over embankment in Cherry Township, road closed

Crews recovered a tractor-trailer from an embankment following a crash Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 5, on Branchton Road in Cherry Township.

“It’s down over an embankment probably 20 feet,” said Robert Hairhoger, emergency medical services commander for Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Hairhoger said crews were dispatched at 1:06 p.m. to 821 Branchton Road.

“A semi-truck left the right side of the road, sheared off a telephone pole and went down in the embankment,” he said.

While crews had “no idea what caused it,” according to Hairhoger, he said no injuries resulted from the incident.

“We just notified the power company and (the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation) to close the road and direct the traffic,” he said.

Hairhoger said crews then turned over the scene for recovery of the tractor-trailer and repairs to utilities, closing the road to through traffic Tuesday afternoon.

“It’ll probably be for the remainder of the evening,” he said.

Also responding were Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company, Slippery Rock EMS and the Pennsylvania State Police.
