Man charged for involvement in hit-and-run with another company’s truck
A Cranberry Township man has been charged with fleeing a hit-and-run while driving a vehicle belonging to one of his employer’s customers.
Adams Township Police charged Jeffrey D. Monteleone, 56, of Allegheny County, with a misdemeanor count of accident involving damage, and summary counts failing to stop and render aid, and driving while suspended related to a hit-and-run Jan. 7.
The vehicle Monteleone was driving belonged to Butler Color Press, whose general manager gave permission to Oilology owner Keith Smith to allow his employees to drive.
After police responded to a call at the intersection of Route 228 and Warrendale Road near Mars, they used surveillance footage to track the vehicle that had left the scen.
Police said Monteleone confirmed he drove the truck Jan. 7, but denied the crash. Police observed gray paint streaks on the front passenger side of the truck. They later determined Monteleone’s driver’s license is suspended.
Butler Color Press general manager Raymond Sielski said driving the truck is part of the diagnostic process and repairs, and he’s never had a problem in 20 years of working with Smith.
Sielski said police told him there were no injuries and no damage to the truck, and he was unaware of Monteleone’s suspended license. He does not plan to pursue civil charges.
Monteleone’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 19 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
Oilology previously made news when Smith was sentenced in March 2024 after pleading guilty to seven counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle and one count of deceptive business practices filed by Cranberry Township police between November 2021 and October 2022.
Attempts to reach Oilology for comment were unsuccessful.
