PennDOT expecting snowy road conditions Saturday
PennDOT is implementing speed and vehicle restrictions anticipating snow and freezing rain throughout the area on Saturday, Feb. 15.
PennDOT’s Tier 1 restrictions encourage drivers of passenger and recreational vehicles, motorcycles, buses, tractors without trailers and tractors with lightly loaded or unloaded trailers to proceed with caution. Restrictions will apply at noon Saturday on Interstate 80 from the Interstate 79 interchange in Mercer County to Exit 173 in Clinton County and the entirety of Interstate 99.
New restrictions will be applied at 4 p.m. on I-80 from Exit 173 to I-81, on I-81 from I-78 to I-80, and the entire length of I-180.
PennDOT data showed 151 crashes, three fatalities and 55 injuries during snowy conditions last winter.
Drivers should stay at least six car lengths away from plows and move away from the center of the road when plows pass. The law requires drivers to remove accumulated snow and ice from their vehicle before driving. Motorists can check road conditions at 511PA.com.
