Man charged with selling stolen lift in Harrisville

State police with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations charged a Pittsburgh man after he allegedly sold stolen lifts on Facebook Marketplace in three counties.

Michael Lamont Franklin Jr., 23, was charged with one felony count each of theft, theft by deception and receiving stolen property related to an Oct. 10 incident in Harrisville.

Police investigating stolen 35-foot JLG boom lifts from Home Depot in Allison Park went to the lift’s last known location and spoke with the homeowner, who said he bought the lift off Facebook marketplace. He told police he bought the lift Sept. 11 for $11,500 in cash. The seller arrived to the meeting location at the Sheetz in Harrisville in a Home Depot truck, according to the affidavit.

Police found Franklin was connected by the web address to the Facebook profile the seller had been communicating with, but the Facebook profile had a different name. The cellphone number used to contact sellers was consistent across multiple investigations, according to the affidavit.

Police charged Franklin with selling the stolen lifts in Allegheny, Erie and Fayette counties.

Franklin’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
