Police seeking driver’s identity in Sunday crash along East Jefferson Street

Butler City police are seeking information about the identity of a driver who abandoned their vehicle after a rollover crash Sunday, Feb. 23., afternoon in the 1000 block of East Jefferson Street near Butler Memorial Hospital.

Police said a driver fled the scene after crashing striking a utility pole near the hospital with their 2006 BMW at around 4:07 p.m.

While an investigation into the identity of that driver is ongoing, police have arrested another driver in relation to that scene.

During the response to the Sunday afternoon crash, police said James Young, 67, of Renfrew, passed through downed wires from a broken utility pole sustaining damage to his 2012 Ford Mustang and nearly striking an officer.

Young was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and both vehicles were towed, according to the release.

Melissa Forster, a marketing and communications specialist with Independence Health Systems, said patient care at nearby Butler Memorial Hospital was not affected.
