Crews respond to late-night truck fire in Butler Township
No injuries were reported after four fire crews and the Butler County Hazmat Team were called to a tractor-trailer fire Wednesday, Feb. 26, night in Butler Township.
Township fire Chief Scott Frederick said the tractor-trailer hauling grease was parked for the night at 105 Homewood Drive, near Triangle Gasoline, and the driver awoke to smoke filling the cabin. He attempted to extinguish the fire, and he evacuated with his dog, Frederick said.
Although Butler Township’s Station 3 commanded the scene, Butler Bureau of Fire Station 1 arrived first to report the tractor-trailer cabin and its diesel fuel tank were on fire, according to Capt. Michael Huey. The call came in around 10:24 p.m., he said.
Hazmat was called in case grease spilled from the tractor-trailer’s storage, but the incident was contained to the cabin.
Crews were on the scene for around two hours, according to emergency dispatch reports. Huey said it took about 40 minutes to get the scene under control. Butler EMS, VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services and Unionville Volunteer Fire Company also responded.
