Crews battle early-morning box truck fire near Harmony
Fire crews responded to an early morning box truck fire on Interstate 79 on Tuesday, March 3, near Harmony.
Harmony Fire District assistant chief Justin Hart said the call came in around 2:37 a.m. for a multi-vehicle accident near mile marker 88. He found the cargo area of the box truck on fire when they arrived. He said it looked like small battery packs in the cargo area started the fire.
Hart said the truck’s driver noticed the fire while driving and attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher. He said the radio and back window in the cabin were melted.
Hart said fire crews were on scene for about an hour. Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Harmony EMS and state police also responded.
