Firefighter injured battling Cranberry Township fire
A firefighter was injured when debris fell on his head early Monday while he was fighting a structure fire in Cranberry Township.
The injured Wexford Volunteer Fire Company firefighter was transported to UPMC Passavant with neck pain and remains in the hospital, according to Scott Garing, the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company chief. He said debris fell on the firefighter’s head while the firefighter was working on the first floor.
Fire companies responded around 1 a.m. near 204 Ravenscroft Court for a porch on fire. The house was fully involved when crews arrived. Garing said two occupants evacuated the house when smoke detectors alerted them.
Garing said crews were on scene about four hours extinguishing hot spots. He said the very large house made it tough to find all the hot spots, but the fire remained out.
Garing said the entire house burned down, and state police fire marshals are investigating the cause.
Cranberry Township EMS, SAFER Group, Beaver County’s New Sewickley Fire District and Allegheny County’s Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
