Sarver man accused of stealing 4 guns in burglary

State police in Butler said a Sarver man burglarized a Saxonburg home and stole four guns while the homeowner was on vacation.

Jason Lee Armour, 45, was charged with one felony count each of burglary, prohibited possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass, and one misdemeanor count each of loitering and prowling at night, evading arrest, resisting arrest, possession of an instrument of a crime, controlled substance possession and drug paraphernalia possession related to a Sunday, March 16 incident.

Police received a call from a woman on Knoch Road who was caring for two homes her sister owns while her sister is on vacation. The caller said her sister’s houses were ransacked and potentially burglarized. She suspected the perpetrator was still in one of the houses, police said.

The caller told police one of the houses appeared to be ransacked, with drawers opened and dumped out and lights left on the lower level. She told police she believed the culprit was still inside after seeing footprints going downstairs, police said.

Police entered the house about an hour later and discovered Armour carrying bags. Police said they ordered him to stop, and Armour ran into a heavily wooded area with with sharp bushes and thorns. Officers eventually caught up to him and put him into handcuffs by force, finding a bag of marijuana in his pocket, police said.

In the bags Armour carried, police found a Parker Brothers double-barrel shotgun and its gun case, a Remington .257 Model 722 rifle and its gun case, a Savage Model 23AA rifle and its gun case, and a Russian Mosin-Nagant M44 rifle and its gun case.

Police said they spoke with the homeowner later who confirmed owning the guns.

Armour’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 1 before District Judge Jack Ripper.
