Michigan man charged in Cranberry Township after reported cash button fraud

A Michigan man accused of committing cash button frauds at multiple greater Pittsburgh area Walgreens has been arrested in Cranberry Township, police said.

Cranberry Township police charged Devante R. Nunn, 30, of Grand Blanc, Mich., with one misdemeanor count each of theft by deception and receiving stolen property following to a Feb. 24 incident at Walgreens.

Police said the manager was notified by other Walgreens locations a man was committing the frauds, and the manager discovered Nunn had been at the store earlier that day.

Police said Nunn approached the cashier with a $2.99 birthday card and a $240 PayPal gift card, entered his access device into the card reader and instructed the cashier to press the cash button. The cashier then gave Nunn 88 cents thinking it was his change.

Walgreens is seeking restitution of $246.82. Police said they received a similar theft report from Chippewa Township police about two hours after the Cranberry theft and were able to identify Nunn.

Nunn’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
