Woman killed in Jefferson Township crash
One woman was killed in a crash near the intersection of Route 356 and Burtner Road in Jefferson Township on Wednesday, police said.
Lillian F. Bachman, 96, of Butler, died in the crash around 4:30 p.m. while driving with Owen D. Stepp, 92, of Sarver, state police in Butler said. Police said the pair’s Subaru Outback pulled out from a stop sign on Burtner Road into the path of a Volvo XC60 driven by Thomas J. Paserba, 50, of Aspinwall.
Police said Paserba attempted to avoid a collision by swerving into the oncoming lane, but struck Bachman’s vehicle on its front-left side. Stepp was transported to Allegheny General Hospital, and Paserba was uninjured.
Emergency dispatchers said a medical assistance helicopter was requested to the scene after the multi-vehicle crash shut down the road.
Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company and Saxonburg EMS responded to the scene.
