Butler woman charged with assaulting police officer

A Butler woman was arrested in connection with the alleged assault of an officer at a traffic stop Friday, March 28, police said.

Butler city police charged Cierra Rose Hefferan, 22, with one felony count each of aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer, and one misdemeanor count each of terroristic threats, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol following the traffic stop.

Police said Hefferan exited her vehicle and attempted to walk away during the traffic stop and yelled racial slurs at officers, showing signs of intoxication.

Police said Hefferan attempted to pull away and kick an officer while being placed into handcuffs. She allegedly threatened to shoot an officer, police said. At the station, Hefferan spit at an officer twice, dug her nails into an officer and continued to refuse commands, according to police.

Hefferan is being held in Butler County Prison on a $35,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. April 7 before District Judge William Fullerton.
