3 flown to hospital after Buffalo Township crash
Three people were flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center Sunday evening after a two-vehicle crash in Buffalo Township.
The call came in around 8:45 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash and possible vehicle fire in the 500 block of South Pike Road near Giant Eagle, said Matt Cypher, the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company chief.
He said the three occupants of the two vehicles sustained suspected moderate injuries and wanted to be evaluated at a Pittsburgh trauma center. Three LifeFlight helicopters were staged at Freeport Area High School to transport the patients, Cypher said.
Buffalo Township police arrived first and began to contain a small fire near the engine of one of the vehicles, and the fire crews put it out when they arrived.
Cypher said the road was shut down for about half an hour in both directions, and crews were on scene about an hour. Sarver Volunteer Fire Company and Freeport Fire-EMS also responded.
