Man charged with impeding traffic, fighting hospital staff
A Butler man was accused of impeding traffic on Main Street before fighting hospital staff at Butler Memorial Hospital
Clarence Ronald Fletcher Jr., 51, was charged with felony aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count each of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct related to a Saturday, April 5, incident.
Police said they were called near the intersection of Main and Jefferson streets for reports of a man yelling at passing cars and smacking road signs. They found Fletcher lying in the middle of the road visibly intoxicated.
Police said Fletcher told them he was clipped by a vehicle while walking across the street, but witnesses told police he was not hit by a vehicle. The witnesses reported Fletcher was attempting to strike vehicles as they passed and impeding traffic before he fell in the middle of the street, police said.
Fletcher was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital. When attempting to leave, police said they were flagged down by nursing staff in the X-ray room. Police said they entered the room to find doctors, nurses and security attempting to hold Fletcher down, and police had to stun Fletcher to get him to comply. Police said one employee reported she was struck in the face by Fletcher’s closed fist during the altercation.
Fletcher’s preliminary hearing is pending.
