GoFundMe started for family overcoming Wednesday house fire in Butler Township

A GoFundMe for the family whose home was damaged in a Wednesday, April 16, fire in Butler Township has raised more than $500 in its first 24 hours.

Susan Andre was at work as a nurse’s aide when her 17-year-old daughter, Jenna, and 11-year-old granddaughter called to tell her about the fire, which broke out around 11 a.m. at the Penn Avenue residence.

“I ran home. They got out with the dogs,” Andre told the Butler Eagle on Wednesday.

The family’s cat died in the blaze. The family did not have renter’s insurance.

“And if you can’t donate, we understand,” Melinda Andre said in the GoFundMe she started for the family. “All we ask is please share their story and say a prayer that God guides them through this hardship they’re going through.”

People can donate by going to the GoFundMe website and searching “Help Mark & Susan Rebuild After Fire.”

Firefighters from eight companies responded and contained most of the fire to the first floor’s back room, which the family used as a craft room. The fire spread to the kitchen and stairwell, but Butler Township Volunteer Fire District Chief Mike Schmidt said the damage is repairable.

Cindy Parker, of Walk in Faith Ministries at the corner of Penn Avenue and Erie Street, said the ministry is also accepting donations for the family by drop-off or by calling 724-968-2018.
