Coroner releases 2024 report
The Butler County Coroner responded to fewer coroner cases in 2024 than in previous years, and the case breakdown highlights more positive trends.
The coroner responded to 193 calls in 2024, down from 211 in 2023. The number of coroner cases has steadily declined since peaking at 260 in 2021.
The number of homicides remained the same as 2023 with four, with two of them attributed to Corey Comperatore and Thomas Matthew Crooks. The manner of death for both was considered homicide since they were both shot.
Drug-related deaths were also down to 43 in 2024 after being above 60 per year since 2019. About 65 drug-related deaths were recorded in 2023.
Only 12 deaths resulting from motor vehicle crashes were reported, down from 22 in 2022. The number had consistently hovered around 14 since 2017.
The number of suicides recorded also decreased to 27 in 2024 after seeing 35 in 2023. The number peaked at 37 suicides in 2021. Suicides by gunshot were down to 17 in 2024 compared to 23 in 2023.
