EVANS CITY — After an almost three-month hiatus, the Evans City-Seven Fields Police Commission conditionally authorized the hiring of two part-time officers Monday.

The commission is in the process of filling vacant positions in the regional police department after one part-time and two full-time officers resigned earlier this month.

"It’s a pretty urgent need,“ said president Dean Galitsis, representing Seven Fields.

Brad Rubinosky, representing Evans City, stressed that the authorization to hire these part-time officers was “conditional.”

The condition, the commission agreed, would be pending a satisfactory interview with regional police Chief Joe McCombs.

“Which I believe they’re being held next week,” Rubinosky said.

McCombs, according to Sgt. Donald Myers, is on vacation this week.

Also pending the interview next week is the number of shifts the part-time officers will cover, according to solicitor Matt Racunas.

“It all depends on what they can offer,” he said.

The commission also approved the resignation of all three outgoing officers Monday.

Cpl. Scott Longdon though, one of the resigning full-time officers, made a request of the commission in his resignation.

“He said that he’d be willing, interested in having an exit interview in his resignation,” Rubinosky said.

Longdon told the Eagle last month that he had resigned over growing job security concerns in the regional police department.

The commission approved conducting an exit interview for Longdon at its next meeting.

Kim Regan-Koch, representing Seven Fields by phone in place of Morgan Hardesty during Monday’s meeting, said the exit interview would have to be held during executive session as a “personnel matter.”

“If that is something that someone desires, or we as an employee body want that exit interview to better our employee relations, that should always be an opportunity for anybody,” said Regan-Koch. “But an exit interview should not be conducted in a public meeting.”

Out of the three resigning officers, only Longdon requested an exit interview, according to Rubinosky.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 17 in the Seven Fields Borough Municipal Building.
