ADAMS TWP — Township parks and recreation director Brian Perry told supervisors on Monday, May 8, that the community park’s new splash pad is nearing completion.

“We’re just a couple of weeks away,” Perry said.

Perry said the township is planning for a Memorial Day opening as crews finish up “just a couple more items.”

“Turf is coming in this week, then fencing and then finishing up with the parking lot and the parking lot lights,” Perry said.

He said the splash pad would be a staffed feature in the park, and that the department already has one applicant for the positions.

“Right now we’re working on one, but we’re trying to get more,” Perry said.

Conrad Pfeifer, executive director and chief of Quality EMS, said he would be training the staff in first aid.

Additionally, Perry said pavilions throughout the park have been outfitted with curtains in preparation for the summer.

“We got a ton of compliments already on how nice they are and how much it helps with wind and weather and that type of stuff,” Perry said.

The parks and recreation department also finished installing lights for the Rotary baseball field, according to Perry, and will be installing lights at the pickleball courts after crews complete the splash pad parking lot.

“Our number one objective right now is splash pad,” supervisor president Russell Ford said. “So we want to be splashing, hopefully, by Memorial Day.”

The board also approved submitting a grant application for a new trail along Three Degree Road.

“We’re in the process of applying for a grant, and this is for a trail that would extend from roughly where Sheetz and PennDOT will finish their trail, heading south on Three Degree Road and eventually connecting to Valencia borough,” supervisor Darryl Brandon said.

The $250,000 grant is offered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.

Brandon said the goal of the trail is to provide access to convenience stores and commercial areas in the township for residents.

As the meeting adjourned, supervisor Ronald Nacey also asked the public to be cautious while driving on Mars-Evans City Road on Tuesday, May 9.

Nacey said a group of VFW volunteers and Boy Scouts will be doing road cleanup on the road from Hutchman Road to Pittsburgh Street during the evening.

“So just kind of pass the word: If people are going up and down there, just to try to take it easy,” Nacey said. “You’re going to have supposedly some older people from the VFW and a bunch of young kids running up and down the road there trying to clean that mess up down there, so just be cautious.”
