Zelie Horse Trading Days recovers from storm
After an evening of storms Thursday, July 20, several tents were damaged at Zelienople’s Horse Trading Days.
“We lost one tent for the Kids Corner, and then, I think, there were five or six other tents that went,” said Justin Jamison, director of vendor relations.
By early afternoon Friday, Jamison said the damage had been “95% cleaned up.”
“A couple of tree branches fell, and we cleaned those up,” Jamison said. “We had a few people donate some tents to vendors, and some people loaned some tents to vendors. We’re trying to make it as right as we can.”
Residents flooded a Facebook update on the damage with various offers to provide tents for affected vendors, with some going as far as bringing their tents down Friday morning.
“I showed up and one of my vendors said, ‘Someone just came over and gave this to us today,’” Jamison said. “I was shocked. I’d never seen that happen before. There’s a lot of terrible things on social media, but that was one of the good ones.”
The 59th annual Horse Trading Days continues through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., in downtown Zelienople.
