Man dies after driving vehicle onto ice, breaking through
A Mercer County man died after his vehicle fell through ice into a reservoir.
Robert Humphrey, 72, of Hermitage, was pronounced dead around 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, following a two-day recovery after his vehicle fell through ice into the Shenango Reservoir.
South Pymatuning Township police and neighboring law enforcement are investigating why Humphrey was operating his vehicle on the ice-covered reservoir. Police said he drove onto the reservoir ice Friday, Jan. 31 at the Mahaney Boat Launch near the Shenango Dam.
Mercer County Coroner John A. Libonati determined Humphrey’s cause of death to be asphyxia in the accidental death.
