No injuries reported in Jackson Township dryer fire
Firefighters made quick work of a dryer fire in basement of The Grove at Harmony on Wednesday night, Feb. 5, according to the Harmony Fire District chief.
Chief Doug Pickett said the call came in around 10:12 p.m. for smoke in the basement where the laundry room and utilities are stored. Crews were on the Jackson Township scene for about an hour and 10 minutes, according to scanner traffic.
Pickett said firefighters stretched a hose line to the basement, which had a moderate smoke condition, and discovered the fire in a dryer. Crews stayed on scene after extinguishing the fire to ventilate as the older portion of the building in the front had a lot of smoke, he said.
Pickett said the nursing facility staff had all residents sheltering in place in another part of the building before fire crews arrived.
Mutual aid arrived as firefighters were putting out the fire, so Pickett canceled the majority of the stations called, he said.
Harmony EMS, Jackson Township police, Adams Area Fire District, Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department, Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, Beaver County’s Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department and New Sewickley Fire District and Lawrence County’s Ellwood City Fire Department were also called to respond, according to dispatch.
