Man charged with stabbing woman in Second Street home

A Butler man is accused of stabbing a woman during an altercation at a Butler home, according to city police.

Jon Maurice Broadnax, 63, was charged with felony aggravated assault related to the alleged Feb. 11 incident on Second Street. Broadnax said he attempted to stab a woman with the fixed-blade knife in his pocket after she struck him on both sides of his face leaving a large scratch under his left eye, according to the affidavit.

Broadnax told police he carries the blade for protection.

Broadnax told police that the woman and her boyfriend were living with him in exchange for crack cocaine. The woman left to procure some the night before the incident and did not return until the altercation, according to the affidavit.

Police said Broadnax was unsure if he had struck the woman with the knife, but she fled the residence. Police collected the knife and located the woman at an East Jefferson Street residence.

Police located the woman with a wound on the lower left side of her abdomen. She told police that Broadnax attempted to throw her out of his house, became aggressive, and then stabbed her, according to the affidavit. She told police that she retaliated by attempting to scratch his eyes.

The woman was transported by Butler Ambulance Service to UPMC Presbyterian.

Broadnax’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 17 before District Judge William Fullerton.
