Dense fog reported amid Wednesday morning crashes
Four crashes were reported in the span of 40 minutes across Butler County Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, as fog and black ice impacted driving conditions.
The latest crash at the time of publication was around 8:15 a.m. in Buffalo Township with no injuries. One vehicle struck either a deer or a tree, according to scanner traffic.
Fire and EMS crews responded to two crashed on Interstate 79 southbound around 6:22 and 6:57 a.m. The first was a single-vehicle rollover crash at mile marker 98.8 that resulted in one patient with a back injury, and the second involved a vehicle spinning out around mile marker 97.6, according to scanner traffic.
Crashes were also reported around 6:38 and 6:40 a.m. The first was a three-vehicle crash on Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township. The second involved two patients, one pinned in the vehicle with minor injuries, and the other walking around outside the vehicle at the intersection of Bonnie Brook Road and Keel Lane in Summit Township, according to scanner traffic.
A National Weather Services spokesperson said its dense fog advisory will last until 9 a.m., and the fog should mostly dissipate by late morning. Visibility was worst around 3 a.m.
Black ice is possible with temperatures below freezing last night, the spokesperson said. Black ice is caused by residual moisture on the ground refreezing.
The rest of the day will be mostly sunny with some clouds and a high of 42 degrees. About a quarter of an inch of rain will fall in the evening beginning around 5 until around 7 p.m.
