Youngstown man arrested in Butler with firearms, drugs
Butler police charged a Youngstown man after five unidentified men fled from a vehicle during a traffic stop March 3.
Jaron Edward Lewis, 30, was charged with two felony counts of prohibited possession of a firearm; one felony count each of possessing a firearm with the manufacturer numbers altered and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver; and one misdemeanor count each of evading arrest, tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance following the incident on West Jefferson Street.
Police said they were searching for Lewis with an active warrant out of Youngstown and were advised of his vehicle’s location. When attempting a traffic stop, police said all four doors of the Toyota Grand Highlander opened and five men fled the vehicle.
Police said when they pursued the men on foot, Lewis threw a Kel-Tec .22 caliber long rifle pistol with an altered serial number on the ground and continued running. Police detained Lewis after he fell.
Police said they also found Lewis in possession of an unregistered Ruger LCP .380 caliber pistol, a 30-round 9 mm extended magazine with 29 rounds inside, a bag containing about 16 grams of suspected crack cocaine and three cellphones.
Lewis is being held in the Butler County Prison under a $200,000 bond. His preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
