Family speaks about fatal Clearfield Township fire
While a fire marshal with state police continues investigating the cause of the fire that killed a 2-year-old boy Saturday, March 8, in Clearfield Township, the boy’s grandmother shared what she believes to be the cause in a recent interview with another news outlet.
Jesse Umbaugh, 2, died after his family’s trailer caught fire just before 8 a.m. March 8 in the 2000 block of East Old Route 422. State police on Thursday said the fire marshal is investigating to determine the cause.
The boy’s grandmother, Tina Bryner, told WPXI in an interview the fire was caused by an electrical issue, and the family dog, Precious, also died.
A GoFundMe for the family has raised more than $21,000, as of Thursday morning, with almost 250 donations. The home was destroyed in the fire.
Parents Melina Bryner and Alex Umbaugh attempted to retrieve the child but could not locate him, according to the grandmother’s interview with WPXI. Both were taken to Pittsburgh hospitals.
