The National Weather Service anticipates almost record-breaking seasonal temperatures Wednesday, March 19, and prime conditions for brush fires.

A spokesperson said temperatures at the closest weather station, the Pittsburgh International Airport, could rise to 77 degrees, one degree below the record of 78 degrees reported in 1898. The spokesperson said nearby Ohio stations are also forecast near record-breaking temperatures.

Wind in the area will average 10 to 20 mph with gusts from 30 to 35 mph. Humidity will average 15 to 25%.

The spokesperson said the combination of warm temperatures, dry air and gusty winds create an increased risk of brush fires. He said fuels in the area that typically contribute to the spread of brush fires are still wet but have the potential to dry out very quickly.
