Slippery Rock High School cited for 25 false alarms in last 12 months
State police have cited Slippery Rock Area High School for excessive false alarms.
The school recorded about 25 false alarms between March 21, 2024, and March 20, according to office staff for District Judge Joseph Nash.
Slippery Rock Area School District superintendent Alfonso Angelucci said the high school has seen an increase in false alarms due to construction. He said some construction tools cause smoke that triggers the alarm, and the construction manager wasn’t able to notify emergency services before they arrived. He said the district discusses how to curb false alarms each week in its safety meeting.
The summary offense calls for a $300 fine.
A party can be charged with summary control of alarm devices if more than three false alarms occur within 12 months, according to Section 7511(c) of the Pennsylvania Code.
Construction is underway on an updated cafeteria and new secure building entrance at the high school, and the project is expected to extend through the summers of 2025 and 2026.
